Preview the Revamped Legendary Adventure: This Complimentary Demo for DQ7 Reimagined Debuts Soon.

Players anticipating the release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined can get a head start too much longer. A free-to-play trial experience is set to go live on Jan. 7, offering a sizable taste into the game's opening hours. Critically, all progress achieved within this demo will be able to be imported directly into the full game upon its subsequent release.

More Than a Straightforward Re-release: The Complete Reimagining

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined constitutes a comprehensive re-envisioning of the iconic 2000 role-playing game, originally known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a significant step away from other series re-releases, like the recently launched HD-2D versions, this version embraces a unique three-dimensional aesthetic. The world have been crafted to evoke detailed dioramas, with protagonists sporting a whimsical stylized look.

"Even with the 3DS port, the narrative was still exceptionally lengthy. So we came to a decision that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] craft an experience for today's gamers."

Significant Gameplay Improvements and Modernizations

Square Enix have introduced numerous enhancements to update the classic gameplay loop. These include:

  • Quick Overworld Encounters: Similar to modern role-playing games, low-level foes are now dispatched instantly on the exploration screen without entering a separate traditional combat screen.
  • Adjustable Battle Pace: Gamers can accelerate battle sequences to quickly power through simpler fights.
  • New Job Mechanics: A completely new character role was added for this remake. Additionally, characters now have the capacity to master a second job, significantly enhancing strategic depth.

Such refinements are designed to tackle a key the original game's most noted points of feedback: its daunting playtime. The initial main quest was known to take more than 100 hours to complete. This reimagined edition has been specifically designed to enhance progression and cut down on perceived repetition.

Save the Date: Demo and Final Release Details
